"Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast in the field...And he said to the woman...'You shall not eat from any tree in the garden?'"

For eons, they've been labeled as evil, sneaky reptiles leading us (women) into temptation. We are afraid of their hypnotic and cunning abilities, their slithering ways, and their venomous bite.
But take a closer look to see how snakes possess a beauty like no other: They are sexy creatures that undulate and slip through the grass. They are blessed with gorgeous, unique markings. The touch of their skin is both textured and slippery. They have the ability to shed old skin for new.
The positive metaphors for the serpent relate to healing (the universal snake coiled around a stick in medicine), fashion (snakeskin is the new black!), and yoga (Kundalini is the coiled serpent power of our cosmic energies).
I believe there's always a hidden meaning that creates our fears, so it's a good idea to challenge yourself to look for the positive side of the things that scare you.
Indulge me for a moment; maybe our fear of snakes (if you have one) is related to the fear of our own sexual powers?
In tantra (and other yogic practices) the "serpent power" (or sacred/sexual energy) is so great, it is said that if Kundalini is not opened naturally and spontaneously, then it can be dangerous to our bodies. Shakti meditation teacher, Sally Kempton, says that we should honor and respect Kundalini energy, as she is trying to expand and awaken you - to put you in touch with with your own deeper spirit.
There are many ways to awaken your Serpent Powers (meditation, yoga, Chakra opening) when you are ready. But, we'll save them for another time (or you can find yourself a great Kundalini or Tantra teacher).
For now we'll focus on how we can naturally own our sexual power on a daily basis, and feel her rise gently.

This simple practice will allow you to be one with your entire body. You may feel tingly in your groin and skin, you might feel a loosening of the muscles, you might begin to move with subtle grace.
Now that you are warming to the beauty of snakes, try living fearlessly with the serpent in your body. It can be quite sexy.

If all else fails, you can always get yourself a python skirt, jacket, bag, or pair shoes to rock your serpent!
